Every evening Kamatchi Amman Kuthu Vilakku (mother goddess Kamatchi’s traditional oil lamp) is lit in most of the South Indian households and the oil lamp is kept burning till daybreak.

This is a hand crafted brass traditional single wink lamp and is decorated on the top with the mythical Yali on top. This brass oil lamps are lit using ghee, clarified butter or oil, and a cotton wick, in the belief that the illumination from the lamp removes darkness from home.
